Cameron Highland Travel Guide

The best time to visit Cameron Highlands is the off-peak season, which is a normal weekday. Cameron Highlands is very crowded during the peak season, especially during public holidays and school holidays. I suggest you visit Cameron Highlands on the weekend, but sometimes on weekends also traffic jams from Kea Farm to Tanah Rata.
The weather in Cameron Highlands is cool throughout the year, the temperature ranges from 13 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius. Raining always happens for the whole year, the dry season is between February and April. If you enjoy the coldness in Cameron Highlands, you can visit between December to February. The temperature can drop to 10 degrees Celsius at certain places like the peak of Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantation.

The best time to travel to Cameron Highlands? Here are some facts:

– On average, the warmest month is May.
– On average, the coolest month is January.
– October is the wettest month.
– July is the driest month.

Road Travel

We are strongly recommended you drive carefully & use low gear when you’re driving your own transport to Cameron Highlands. There are many trucks and buses on the roads along the way on the road to Cameron Highlands from Tapah. Normally the trucks and buses will give you a signal to overtake when it is safe enough.

Another way you can drive from Ipoh Simpang Pulai to Cameron Highlands is your first stop is Kampung Raja. I advise you can come from Ipoh Simpang Pulai and then go back to follow Tapah because Ipoh’s new road is more suitable for driving, Tapah road like a snake you must drive slowly.

Avoid traveling alone at night because sometimes the mist is terrible until you cannot see clearly. Please take note that there is no street light for a certain area and there is very limited mobile phone coverage. Try to drive within your skill limitation, always in low gear because that will help you to negotiate corners better.

Petrol Stations

Before you start your journey to Cameron Highlands please make sure a full tank of fuel. Because petrol stations in Cameron Highlands are only available in the following towns:

1. Ringlet (First town from Tapah) – Shell & Petronas
2. Brinchang (Middle of Cameron Highlands) – Shell & Petronas
3. Blue Valley (First town from Ipoh Simpang Pulai) – BHP

The Township

This highland paradise is made up of a series of little townships which include Ringlet, Tanah Rata, Brinchang, Tringkap, Kuala Terla, Kampung Raja, and Blue Valley. Ringlet is the first town you reach (if you take the Tapah route), which is one of the main agricultural hubs in the highlands. Tanah Rata is the administrative hub of Cameron Highlands where most of the government offices and most the chalets, lodges, and backpackers’ accommodations are located.
Another must-visit town in Cameron Highlands is Brinchang, which is about 10 minutes drive from Tanah Rata, where you can find most of the smaller hotels and food outlets. Many tourist attractions are located within walking distance of the town and the famous Night Market. This town can be very crowded during the peak holiday season.
Besides that, Kea Farm and Tringkap got many stalls to sell local vegetables, fruits, and flowers. Since the new road from Cameron Highlands to Ipoh was open, the more new shop was opened along the road.
What to Wear
I advise you to wear a jacket because of the cool temperature in Cameron Highlands. The wind will let you feel cool even can see the hot sun. The temperature can drop in the late evenings and raining time, you should wear a jacket. Normally nighttime on Cameron Highlands is around 20-23’C, and you will feel cool by opening the window. You prepare a jacket which is better than finding a new jacket on Cameron Highlands.
The weather can change fast in Cameron Highlands, morning hot sun then suddenly raining. Please bring an umbrella when you come. Please prepare sports shoes because some attraction location is going downhill and wet. If a lady wears high heels, it will be hard to walk to some location.
Price of goods
Most of the food (Malay, Chinese, Indian Food, Western food) is available in Cameron Highlands. Due to the higher transportation cost, food price is slightly higher compared to the foods in major city like Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Ipoh. Especially during peak season most of the restaurants which cater to tourists are located. I strongly recommend you ask the price before you order the food. I suggest you order the local vegetables more than meat because local vegetables are fresh.
Mobile Phone Coverage
Coverage for mobile phones is available around the major towns, but the signal will be weak. The 4G network is supported by Tanah Rata and Brinchang but not the whole of Cameron Highlands. During the peak season, too many tourists use the phone line. Sometimes the phone signal will be interrupted.
Credit Card
Credit cards are accepted in most big hotels. You may not be able to use credit cards at almost all of the restaurants and attraction points. Most tourists are paying by cash, not many people know use e-wallets like boost, touch and go and grab pay here.
Banks & Money Changers
Banks are only open on weekdays and generally only between the hours of 9.00 am to 4.30 pm. Especially the money changer counter until 5.30 pm. All banks above have ATM machines to cater to after-hours transactions.
The following banks in Cameron Highlands:
Ringlet:
-CIMB Bank
Tanah Rata:
– Maybank (This bank money changer is open 7days a week)
– Hong Leong Bank
– CIMB ATM
– Am Bank
– Argo Bank
– Bank Rakyat
– Bank Simpanan Nasional
Brinchang:

Kampung Raja, Taman Corina:

How to Choose and Store Sweet Corn for Maximum Freshness

Sweet corn is a beloved staple in many kitchens, known for its crisp texture and naturally sweet flavor. To enjoy it at its best, it's important to know how to choose and store it properly. Here are some tips to ensure your sweet corn stays fresh and delicious. Choosing the Perfect Sweet Corn Look for Green Husks: When picking sweet corn, start by checking the husks. They should be green color and tightly wrapped around the cob. If you notice any brown or dried-out husks, it's a sign that the corn isn't fresh. Feel for Firm Kernels: Give the corn a gentle squeeze through the husk. The kernels should feel firm and plump. If they’re mushy or shriveled, put that cob back – it’s past its prime. Check the Silk: The silk (those thread-like strands coming out of the top)  should be slightly sticky to the touch and look fresh. Depending on the variety of sweet corn, the color can range from light to dark, so focus more on its condition rather than the specific color. Check for Insects: Look for any small holes or damaged areas on the husk. These could be signs of insect infestation. A clean, undamaged husk is what you’re aiming for. Storing Sweet Corn Refrigerate Immediately: Corn starts to lose its sweetness as soon as it’s picked, so refrigerate it as soon as possible to preserve its flavor. According to the University of Illinois Extension, corn can lose up to 50% of its sugar within 24 hours if not refrigerated. Keep the Husks On: Store the corn with the husks still on. They act as a natural protective barrier and help retain moisture. Reader testimonial: “I’ve always kept the husks on my sweet corn before storing it, and it’s remained fresh and flavorful for several days.” Use a Plastic Bag: Place the ears of corn in a plastic bag to keep them from drying out. Make sure the bag is closed tightly. Freeze for Long-Term Storage:  If you can't use the corn within a few days, remove the…
